About Float

What Is Floatation Therapy?

Floatation is the most relaxing therapy a person can experience. It is a therapy with total sensory relaxation.

How Does It Work?

Float Tank - the-float.com

Heavy insulation around the tank prevents the light and sound from entering the tank, water and air inside it are heated at body temperature (36.6-37 °C).

The epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) fights gravity and allows your body to float in the water as well as helps with the regeneration of the tissues of your body.

All of these factors combined allow the analytical part of your brain to shut off and activate the creative part.

Floating Works On Three Levels

PHYSICAL

PSYCHOLOGICAL

SPIRITUAL

Our Benefits

What Exactly Are
The Benefits Of Floating?

1. PHYSICAL benefits of floating for your body

(cortisol is a hormone which increases the blood sugar levels, blood pressure and cholesterol; it also harms the immune system). This is our bodies’ natural way of fighting emotional or physical stress or a potentially dangerous situation (or when taking certain medication). Long term exposure to increased cortisol levels can harm our physical and mental health, it causes hormonal imbalances, especially impacting thyroid and sex hormones, and can cause physical burnout (complete burnout of the adrenal gland). Floating is the complete opposite of a stressful environment as it closely resembles the safe environment in the womb, which represents the highest level of safety and complete absence of stress.
(research shows that one hour of floating therapy equals four to six hours of sleep). The benefits of this therapy will last for at least 24 hours afterwards and the REM sleep that night is significantly longer.

(thanks to the epsom salt, which improves circulation and helps with decreasing the levels of lactic acid in the muscles). Magnesium sulfate is a muscle relaxer and a building block of proteins in the joints. It absorbs directly into the muscles and improves muscle recovery after injuries or intensive training.

(because there is pressure from gravity, our body can relieve all accumulated tension).
It enhances stamina, strength and energy levels. (Muscles absorb magnesium and regeneration is more effective, therefore the body is prepared for increased physical efforts.)
Many patients claim that floating minimises their pain and they can feel the effects up until several days after the therapy.
Endorphins are released when patients experience pain. This increases the body’s ability to withstand significant efforts. They are our body’s natural pain relief.

2. PSYCHOLOGICAL benefits of floating on your mind

(it harmonises brain function and helps with psychosomatic pain).
(Research shows that floating acts as a mild sedative, reducing the effects of anxiety and anxiety related muscle tension, and increases the feeling of relaxation and calmness.)
Floating therapy shuts down the analytical part of the human brain and activates the creative part – visualisation. The primitive part of our brain (which is responsible for survival) starts communicating with the limbic system (which is responsible for our emotions) and the neocortex (which is responsible for abstract thinking, imagination, languages and consciousness).
(Sensory deprivation brings you into a state of complete calmness, which allows the brain to better handle any mental burden caused by work and our daily life. This in turn improves the person’s efficiency.)
(a space without any distractions leads us to better focus, which improves memorisation processes).

*It is important to know that the effects of floating are cumulative. This means that our minds can “turn off” better with every session, as we subconsciously start feeling safer in the chamber.

3. SPIRITUAL effects of floating

(Suitable for beginners as well as more experienced people. Sensory deprivation enables the person to enter into a state of complete presence and to stay there longer.)
(we are also more susceptible to autosuggestion and reprogramming of our patterns).
(dreaming while aware that we are dreaming. This is helpful for getting over internal fears as we are in control of our dreams. Lucid dreaming takes us into the conscious field.)

Words From Others

Who Else Enjoys Floating?

Joe Rogan

Podcaster and comentator

“The sensory deprivation chamber is the most important tool I’ve ever used for developing my mind, for thinking, for evolving.”

Oli White

Youtuber with 1.05 M subscribers

“Words can’t really described what was happening. That was like one of the weirdest, like best experience I ever had.”

Steph Curry

3X NBA champion

“I have a very clear head when it’s done, and it shows in the days after floating. It gives me a nice boost of focus and perspective. The more I do it, the more I get from it.”

Our Benefits

It Is Relevant For You If…

1. You experience signs of burnout

2. You are an athlete seeking enhanced performance

3. You want to maximize the effectiveness of your rest

4. You desire to enter a theta brainwave state

Research

What Does The Research Say?

The benefits of floating are supported by numerous studies. (You can find them under the Scientific Research tab.)

But here’s one study that stands out:

In October 2014, Anette Kjellgren and Jessica Westman conducted a study with 65 participants.

Floating Group: 37 participants

Control group: 28 participants

The Floating Group received 12 float sessions (45 minutes per session) over a span of 7 weeks.
